Treating Depression & Anxiety in Young People

The Australian General Practice Network (AGPN), and beyondblue: the national depression initiative, have in partnership developed the Young Minds training program for GPs, practice nurses and allied health professionals. Young Minds focuses on skills development in the diagnosis, management and treatment of high prevalence mental health disorders commonly occurring in young people between the ages of 12 and 24 years.

Midwest GP Network is organising workshops in Carnarvon, Meekatharra and Geraldton.

Workshop focus:

• Clinical information and practice guidelines on the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and management of common mental health problems experienced by young people;
• Outcome measures commonly used in the diagnosis of these disorders;
• Treatment guidelines and fact sheets for primary care professionals;
• Information about how to develop a ’youth friendly’ practice;
• Resources and support material to support patient psycho-education.
